What Are Spider & Varicose Veins?

Telangiectasias is the medical term for what we call spider veins. It usually is thin and small veins that can be found very close to the skins surface. Often times these thin veins are usually a part of a bigger vein system. It should be noted that the thin veins are sometimes not a part of the system.

Generally there are many different types of factors that can lead to the creation of spider veins. Usually these can be tracked down to it being hereditary. Other factors such as weight gain, pregnancy, hormonal shifts and the type of occupation that you do can all lead to the development of spider veins.

Spider veins are known to have three different patterns. The veins might have the look of a spider web, where the veins come out from one main spot. The veins may also take and resemble the shape of a tiny branch. Finally the veins may just look like thin lines that are separated.

Varicose veins are totally different from their counterparts, spider veins. Usually varicose veins are much bigger, often around about ¼” thick in diameter. These veins also sometimes protrude and are much darker in color.  Varicose veins are also the type of condition that can lead to pain and generally they are associated with vein disorders that are much more serious.
